Located in the city of Newcastle, Nobbys Beach is one of the regions most visited beach and is a well-known beach in Australia. Nobbys Beach is a safe and beautiful beach and is a great place for a walk on a hot summer day.
Swimming, surfing and bodyboarding are very popular activities at the beach. Nobbys Beach has a reputation for being one of the greatest surfing locations in Australia. The beach is also considered as the safest beach for swimming in Newcastle and is accessible year-round. Lifeguard Services provided Monday to Saturday and volunteer members of Nobbys Surf Lifesaving Club provide beach patrols on Sundays during the swimming season.
From the beach you can see Commonwealth Heritage listed Nobbys Head Lighthouse. The lighthouse was established in 1854 and is still an operational lighthouse. It is made out of sandstone and has a height of 10 meters and a range of 44km. This lighthouse is a beautiful structure on top of Nobbys Head and we highly recommend the free walk up to see this wonderful historic lighthouse.
Walk pass the lighthouse to see the Nobbys Head Breakwall. It is a beautiful place to walk and see the breathtaking view of the lighthouse during sunset. The breakwall is an excellent spot for fishing.
Drive or walk up the hill on Nobbys Road you will find Fort Scratchley, a former coastal defense installation, now a museum. The fort consists of a network of tunnels built into the headland. You can explore the tunnels on a guided tour.

Nobbys Beach has lots of public facilities such as free BBQ’s, picnic areas and sun shelters. Toilets and showers are freely available. The car park is free and has plenty of parking spaces including parking for individuals with a disability. Most of the facilities are open all throughout the year.
No dogs allowed on the Nobbys Beach. If you want to take your dog for a beach swim, visit the Horseshoe Beach which is less than 5 min walk from the Nobbys Beach.
How to get there?
Nobbys Beach is located at Nobbys Rd, Newcastle, NSW and is only a 1.5 km drive from Newcastle city. The beach is accessible by using public transport, bus and light train services are available from various parts of Newcastle.

There are many excellent restaurants near the Nobbys Beach. Queens Wharf Hotel is a popular choice for beach-goers in Newcastle. Paymasters Café located near the Foreshore Park is another good choice.
