Four Mile Beach is in Port Douglas, an hour drive from Cairns. Its white sand, tropical coconut trees and azure water are mesmerizing. If you are visiting Cairns, you must consider going to this tropical paradise beach. The beach is smooth and flat and ideal for your kids to play some outdoor games. Despite its name, the beach isn’t actually four miles long.
Four Mile Beach begins with a rocky headland to the north, spans for few kilometres and ends at the reefs and mangroves of the Mowbray River. It’s perfect for a day on the warm sand with your family or for a hike through the rain forest onto the white sandy beach for a swim in the Coral Sea. Although the beach isn’t prone to big waves and rips, it’s best to swim within the marked patrolled area.
You can enjoy the perfectly soft, fine white sand with uninterrupted views of tropical mountains and rain forests. Get to the beach early in the morning for the sunrise. You will be rewarded by the breathtaking and Instagram worthy sunrise of the tropical paradise. There are picnic and barbecue facilities scattered down the stretch of beach.
How to get there?
It is easy to get to the beach, just a 10-minute walk from the town centre. Walk down Macrossan Street towards Davidson Street, turn right onto Garrick Street then left onto Beryl Street and continue onto Sand Street for the northern end of Four Mile Beach. You can drive up to the beach entrance and there are plenty of free parking spaces available.
Where to eat?
There are plenty of restaurants in the Port Douglas town centre. You can enjoy the traditional Australian meals at the Watergate Restaurant and Lounge Bar. You can also taste authentic Thai food, Indian butter chicken with nan bread and Chinese dishes at nearby restaurants.
Where to stay?
Getting accommodation near the beach is super easy. There are numerous hotels, motels and luxury resorts to choose from. My personal choice is Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort. It is a beautiful luxury resort in Port Douglas.
